THE BAY ATLANTIC SYMPHONY

Dear Friends,

I thought it would be be nice to share, in our isolation—Musical Postcards. Since we can’t be together, I thought we could share some of the music we are engaging ourselves in, and in that way be together. The last two days, I have been nibbling on the G major Prelude and Fugue from Book 2 of Well-Tempered Clavier. Here is a rough reading, nothing like a performance, of the prelude. I kept it short—no repeats. The video provides a glimpse of my piano in our living room. Ruby (our standard poodle) always sits right where she is positioned when I play, so this is completely unposed and recorded on my basic iPad 2 propped up on the banister finial. Be well, keep the faith, and stay safe!

SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE "STAND BY ME" FINALE

Don’t miss this incredible video! Cast members from Smokey Joe’s Cafe: The Songs of Leiber and Stoller—seen most recently Off-Broadway in 2018—have come together to perform "Stand By Me," the show's finale. The performance is in honor of, and in solidarity with, the Black Lives Matter movement and most recent cries for racial justice and equality.

#CONDUCTORCAM HONORS BLM: VIRTUAL RAGTIME

Tony nominee Rob McClure passed the baton to assistant conductor of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra Kalena Bovell to lead a virtual Ragtime reunion, featuring Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and more.

The latest episode of McClure’s #ConductorCam Instagram series commemorates the Black Lives Matters movement. To kick things off, the Mrs. Doubtfire star leads an invisible orchestra through the end of the musical's prologue. Suddenly, the music stops and the conductor’s stick is passed to Bovell, who puts the baton away. Then, she performs a poem about Black experience in America and the many injustices that still occur.

DUSAN TYNEK DANCE THEATRE

We went silent last in support of the protesters and those impacted by racial injustice. We are back and are highlighting a dance that is more relevant than ever. It has evolved and has grown over the last decade. Like with everything, the work is never done...

Middlegame is an evening-length dance theater piece consisting of many distinct vignettes. Employing tactics of game strategy and seduction, Middlegame takes its inspiration from the game of chess and 19th century café life. Exploring ideas of élitism, power, and submission within interpersonal relationships, the dance considers the manipulation of "being played, while playing along."

NEW YORK GILBERT & SULLIVAN PLAYERS

We hope the stirring sentiment of “Remotely Ruddigore: a Maytime Madrigal” brings warmth and good spirits to our patrons and supporters, for whom we are truly grateful. Speaking of gratitude, none of this would be possible without the tireless efforts of James Mills, Danny Bristoll, Anessa Marie, and of course the many NYGASP artists who graciously lent their voices to this project. Though separated, we are always finding new ways to unite as a musical community. Please enjoy this tuneful treat from our family to yours.

Naturally 7 is called “The Human Instruments” for a good reason. Using just their vocals, this world-renowned group recreates the sound of a full band on stage. Which is what makes their shows so stunningly jaw-dropping and mind-blowing.
